3rd year, Forestry Lab Assistant and Field Data Collection Coordinator, with Dr. Andrew Burton, Professor of Forest Ecology, at Michigan Tech
Kaleb’s summer research project with Dr. Andrew Burton took him and two doctoral students to redwood forests near Fort Bragg, California to collect soil and wood samples, studying the amount of carbon that returns to the soil as wood decomposes.
A career in forestry is “a dream come true” for Kaleb. “Natural beauty and being
able to see how nature just works has brought me closer to God and marvel in
His ability to create beautiful things while caring about each one of us,” Kaleb says.
Living in Houghton has included spending time with students, attending
daily Masses, and playing on the St. Al’s softball team. “I enjoyed bonding
with my teammates and (slightly) improving my poor batting skills.”
