Gail Hansen became involved in the Music Ministry at St. Al’s while sitting in the center aisle during Mass.
Unknown to Gail, as Fr. Larry processed to and from the altar for Mass, he would hear her singing. “One day, Fr. Larry stopped me after Mass to tell me that he thought I should join the choir. I said I was busy with varsity tennis and academics, to which he quickly responded ‘If you make time for God, God will make time for you’. I didn’t have an answer for that because I hadn’t been challenged like that in my faith before, but I immediately knew he was asking me to trust in God.”
“As concerned as I was about my time, I also knew in my heart that he was right - that if I gave my time to God through music ministry, then God would ensure I had enough time for all the rest. I joined music ministry, stayed on the tennis team, and graduated with honors. Fr. Larry was right. Trust in God.”
Gail lives in Dearborn, Michigan and is a 2002 Michigan Tech graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. She is the Director of Program Management for Moeller Aerospace which specializes in the manufacture of precision machined components for gas turbine aircraft engines, space programs, and power-generation industries.
Taking part in St. Al’s Music Ministry grew Gail’s love of stewardship in the church and participation in the Body of Christ. After graduating from Michigan Tech, she took part in several other ministries in parishes wherever God moved her including Baptismal, Liturgical, Eucharistic, Pro-Life, Senior and Stewardship ministries. “These ministries further expanded my love for the Catholic faith”
She hopes students at St. Al’s will be moved to serve the Church. “St. Al’s brings the life of Jesus Christ through the Catholic Faith into the lives of Michigan Tech students, forming them into Christian leaders and stewards who then exemplify faith-filled values and virtues within their future professions and communities.”
