Paul Rayment and Alex Patterson are two new Catholics at St. Al’s.
They were each received into the Church during a private Mass at St. Al’s prior to the quarantine and closing of Catholic churches in the Diocese of Marquette.
Alex says she was drawn to the Catholic faith while attending St. Al’s.
“I started attending Mass at St. Al’s because of one of my friends so I could try it out. The Mass by Fr. Dustin and Fr. Ben helped me tremendously and everyone at St. Al's is very caring and kind.”
That community at St. Al’s led Alex to the conversion to Catholicism.
“I decided to become Catholic because it seems to be one of the last denominations to uphold the Bible's teaching and not try to make excuses or misinterpret it in light of social norms.”
Paul says he didn’t know what the Church taught before he began to attend Mass at St. Al’s.
“I was attracted to the Catholic Church because it has remained consistent on moral issues. All the Catholic individuals I knew seemed to be good upstanding people, and I wanted to emulate them. I came for the people and because the Church stands for something and stayed because the theology is true.”
He says St. Al’s has had a big impact on his life: “a place to attend Mass, resources to help me learn about the faith, meeting people I consider friends, and participating in many events such as intermural soccer.”
